Vase with Fencai design of eight immortals, Quianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795 AD) Fencai (粉彩), corresponding to the 'famille rose' palette, means ‘soft colours’. These colors were known to the Chinese as yangcai (洋彩, “foreign colors”) because they were first introduced from Europe (around 1685). fencai (粉彩), famille rose. In essence, the terms are used to refer to a form of overglaze enamelled wares which can be distinguished by the presence of enamels that are opaque and powdery in nature. So how does one decide Fencai (粉彩), corresponding to the 'famille rose' palette, means ‘soft colours’. Derived from falangcai, fencai was introduced in the mid-Kangxi period. Fencai green and lead glaze green are both different greens.
